Taking place in New York City, Emily in the Elevator is a love story set inside one of history's most devastating days. It follows two people who find each other in the wreckage of their own lives and choose, against every instinct, to stay. What begins with a missed elevator button becomes a question neither of them can stop asking: what do you do with a life you were never supposed to have?

Prologue
On an ordinary September day in New York City, everyone is going about their regular morning routines. It’s a beautiful day with a light breeze, and not a cloud in the sky. But a sinister plan is at play that will lead to death and destruction, chaos, and despair. No one is ready for what is coming. No one.
Two people, a young man and a woman, who have never met before, step into an elevator in an office tower. This chance meeting and what happens next will force them to examine the obstacles holding them back, and set off a chain of events that will change both of their lives forever.
Although this historical romance story uses real events and places to help the reader experience what the characters saw and felt, all the characters are fictional.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
IngramSpark is a major self-publishing platform for independent authors. It is owned by Ingram Content Group, the largest wholesale book distributor in the world. You may not have heard of them because they cater strictly to indie publishers and authors rather than retail readers. As an author who uses them to distribute my physical books, they offer an opportunity to sell directly to my readers at a discount. When you place an order, they operate just like Amazon. They will print the book on demand and ship it to you.
-
BookFunnel is a digital service that helps authors store, sell, and send digital ebooks and audiobooks to readers. You may not know them because they work behind the scenes to support indie authors rather than selling books directly to the public like a major retail store. BookFunnel has an exceptional app (like Kindle & Audible combined). They send secure download links for ebooks and audiobooks to buyers. Additionally, Bookfunnel’s customer service is widely praised as exceptional. Should you have a problem with your download or the app, a real person is there to respond quickly.

You will find my books in various forms on Amazon. This is just another way to distribute. When you buy direct, you are supporting an independent author. and to show my appreciation, the items you purchase here are discounted. So, everyone wins!
Amazon does not allow digitally narrated audiobooks on Audible unless they were created using its Virtual Voice program. Their program is open to authors by invitation only. Rather than wait for an invitation, I chose to create my book using Spoken.

Digital voice narration means using synthetic-voice technology instead of a human voice to narrate your audiobook.

As an independent author with limited financial resources, there is no way I could afford to hire a human narrator. They are j ust too expensive. My book, Emily in the Elevator, has 72 different characters. With multiple voice digital narration, each character has it’s own unique voice. This creates a rich, and diverse listening experience. In a recent study by the highly respected group, Edison Survey, listeners sampled a human narrated vs digitally narrated multiple voiced audiobook. After listening, 65% of listeners preferred the digital version.
